The town council Wednesday agreed to the hiring of American Structurepoint to complete three conceptual designs.

Plans to redevelop Schererville's Illiana Motor Speedway property are moving to their next phase.

Consultant Pat Reardon says the current concept involves reserving the land closest to U.S. 30 for commercial purposes to help pay for the rest of the project. The former race track itself could be used for entertainment and programming, while the southern portion could be used to expand Rohrman Park's athletic facilities.

Schererville is moving ahead with some of its major projects. The town council voted three-to-two Wednesday to hire Reardon Consulting Services for pre-design work on the Illiana Speedway redevelopment.

Merrillville is looking for an interim town manager. The town says former town manager Patrick Reardon resigned from the role in July.
