A longtime community leader received one final honor Tuesday. The Lake County Council approved a proclamation honoring former council member Clorius Lay, who died in February at the age of 83.

Local officials are hoping to avoid another dispute over emergency services in unincorporated Calumet Township.

Currently, they're are selected by the governor from a pool of candidates created by a judicial nominating commission. Voters only have the option to retain or reject them, when their term ends.

The Lake County Council has agreed to chip in some of its COVID money for a Crown Point area sewer project. Council members passed a resolution Tuesday committing $5 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan.
