Regionally Speaking, March 2, 2022

South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority
Shelf ice on Lake Michigan.

Today: Indiana University Northwest associate professor of economics Micah Pollak is back on "Regionally Speaking" with an update on his data on COVID-19's impact on northwest Indiana and the rest of the Hoosier State. He has some good news to report this time, perhaps some of the best in many months of the pandemic. We bring back our conversation with Susan Thomas with “Just Transition NWI”about a recent decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to begin major action to deal with coal ash pits outside coal-fired power plants around the country, like the one at NIPSCO’s Michigan City generating facility. And "Indiana Dunes Hiking" webmaster Ron Seman talks about a harrowing personal experience walking along the Lake Michigan shoreline — he encountered shelf ice that gave way beneath his feet. But his experience did not lead to death, as it recently did for a 22 year old Indianapolis man who was with his friends walking along the lake.
