Regionally Speaking, February 9, 2022

Today: Matthew Wells, the director of external engagement & partnerships at Purdue University Northwest, is on “Regionally Speaking” with more about the Roberts Impact Lab project and the support of PNW alumnus David Roberts and his wife Susan, who gifted $3 million for what will be a workspace for entrepreneurship, innovation and education in northwest Indiana. Funds from the state’s READI will be used as matching funds. Marissa Adcock with Franciscan Health Crown Point and Misty Hatch with the Lake County Sheriff’s Police Assisted Recovery Initiative task force talk about this week’s for-the-public Mental Health First Aid training course, to educate citizens to be able to assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. Participants will learn the risk factors and the warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns. And we have our initial conversation with Valparaiso University communications professor Tiffany Bell. She teaches classes on diversity, equity and inclusion. She also speaks on subjects ranging from intercultural communication and the intersectionality of race, class and media.
