Indiana Reports 3,000 COVID-19 Deaths

Over the weekend, the Indiana State Department of Health reported its 3,000th confirmed COVID-19 death since March 15.

More than half of those deaths occurred before mid-May. And nearly 60 percent come from long-term care facilities

Marion County has the highest number of deaths by far, with nearly 750. But Tipton and Decatur counties have the highest rate of deaths by population, at 12.5 and 12.4 per 10,000 residents, respectively.

State health officials say there are more than 200 suspected COVID-19 deaths – where a test wasn’t administered but health care professionals believe the person who died had the virus.

While the state’s reported cases have spiked over the last month, reported deaths have – so far – maintained an average of about 10 per day.
