A few years ago Dave Foster, a retired paramedic in South Bend, was told he would need a heart transplant. While he waited, he made dramatic changes to the way he ate, exercised, and managed stress with the help of medical professionals. Within 60 days, Dave’s heart function had improved to the point where a transplant was no longer necessary.
Today we learn why lifestyle choices are one of the leading contributors to chronic disease in the country. The new WFYI documentary “Optimizing Life” explores the link between behavior and health. We talk to the film’s producer, a doctor, and patients who have embraced lifestyle changes to turn their health around.
