The NCAA is canceling all winter and spring championship events.

The organization cited the evolving COVID-19 health threat for its decision and not wanting to contribute to spreading what has been labeled a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

Separately, Big Ten officials announced they would also cancel their remaining championship games. The move comes following other conferences including the Ivy League canceled its tournaments.

Conference officials said the decision comes after careful consideration and that, “you can never overreact from a safety standpoint.”

The cancelation comes after the head coach of Nebraska’s men’s basketball team fell ill. Players were quarantined as a precaution. According to the league, no one on the team tested positive for the virus.

The Big Ten has no plans to crown a champion for the tournament.
