Plans to guide Northwest Indiana's transportation network into the future are ready for public review.
For the past 16 months, the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) has been working on its NWI 2050+ plan. NIRPC says it builds on the themes of its existing transportation plan but takes a deeper dive into topics like roadways, transit, freight traffic, active transportation networks, land use patterns and climate change.
You can find a draft version of NWI 2050+ at nirpc.org, where you can also offer comments.
Open houses on the plan will be held Wednesday, April 5 at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center in Merrillville; Monday, April 10 at Purdue Northwest in Hammond; Wednesday, April 12 at the Michigan City Public Library; and Thursday, April 13 at the Porter County Government Center. Each event will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and will feature a continuous presentation, along with a chance to talk to NIRPC staff.
