Valparaiso's elementary schools will share a dedicated school resource officer. The Valparaiso Board of Works finalized a memorandum of understanding last week, following the school board's approval the week before.
Police Chief Andrew McIntyre said it'll allow a fourth officer to be assigned specifically to the elementary schools, in addition to those already assigned to the high school and each middle school. "This specific SRO would visit each of the elementary schools throughout the course of their shift, their week," McIntyre explained.
Valparaiso Community Schools will also increase its annual contribution to $70,000 per officer.
