As enslaved Africans tried to gain their freedom, many decided that their only option was to follow the North Star to states that did not allow slavery. And while many brave slaves were able to escape alone and unaided many others were guided by members of a secret society that has become known as the Underground Railroad. Historical data reflects the Underground Railroad was most active in Indiana between 1830 and 1865. Lakeshore Public Radio host Dee Dotson speaks with noted historian Jeannie Regan-Dinius about Indiana has a rich and storied history in the Underground Railroad.
