Despite the fact that 97% of Americans will receive Social Security benefits in their lifetime, it seems Americans still lack a true understanding of the benefit. A recent survey from Nationwide shows a disconnect between American’s confidence and knowledge of Social Security. While a strong majority of American adults (91%) said they’re at least somewhat confident in their Social Security knowledge, two out of five don’t know at what age one becomes eligible for full retirement benefits, nor do they know how much their monthly benefit will be. Northwest Indiana financial advisor Greg Hammer joined Lakeshore Public Radio’s Dee Dotson to provide insight on the “basics of Social Security and your retirement”.
