Pride Month: The intersectionality of faith and the LGBTQ+ community

Image created by Dee Dotson

June marks Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ community as well as a time to reflect on the movement that continues to push for full and equal rights for members of the community. Lakeshore Public Radio is dedicated to inclusion and diversity in every aspect of our community. Regionally Speaking celebrates Pride Month with interviews with members and allies to promote increased visibility and equality to a population whose members have historically been forced to conceal their identities. Lakeshore Public Radio’s Dee Dotson spoke with Barb Langel, member and vice president of the board of directors at First Unitarian Church of Hobart to talk the intersectionality of faith and the LGBTQ community.

We must remember that religious figures do not speak in one voice on LGBT issues, and a growing number of religious leaders and organizations support the LGBT community. Furthermore, LGBT Christians are living reminders that religion and LGBT status need not be diametrically opposed.

Dee Dotson is the host and producer of our radio show/podcast, Regionally Speaking. Dee is responsible for connecting with the northwest Indiana community to share their stories with the Lakeshore Public Media listening audience.
