CHESTERTON - The South Shore Line is making a gesture to show appreciation to its passengers for their loyalty during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District is continuing free travel for all weekday eastbound trips throughout the months of September and October 2021.
The eastbound free rides will begin Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 and last through Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, excluding weekends.
Passengers should board applicable weekday eastbound trains with no ticket purchase necessary. Passengers will be responsible for paying all applicable fares on weekend trips and weekday westbound trips.
In addition the mask requirement is in effect through January 18, 2022. That applies to
all South Shore Line stations and onboard trains throughout Indiana and Illinois. The order is in effect regardless of vaccination status.
Passengers who do not comply with the mask mandate will be subject to removal from trains. Certain passengers are exempt including those with medical/health issues and children under the age of 2.
