MICHIGAN CITY -
A group of Northwest Indiana pastors and ministers are calling for the resignation of Michigan City Mayor Duane Parry after he accidentally made a racist remark on a black pastor's voicemail.

The "Times" reports a rally was planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday outside Michigan City Hall demanding Parry's resignation.  The event was reportedly held and went peacefully.

Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Pastor, James Lane, who was the recipient of the voice mail, said that Parry thought that he hung up the phone.

In the inadvertent recording, is of a man identifying himself as Parry who can be heard saying a racist remark.

"They want a (expletive) audience. These black guys, they all want a (expletive) audience."

Lane said he has no problem with the portion of the call that Parry had intended to leave on the voicemail. But he questions why the mayor raised the issue of race, which had nothing to do with the issue at hand.
