NORTHWEST INDIANA - Organizers are planning the return of the county fairs in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.
Although it's not a 100% guarantee the events will be held this summer, Lake County Fair Board President Tom Lump told the "Times" he has cautious optimism.
The summer events, which are a longtime tradition, with the LaPorte County fair being the oldest, had to be canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year's county fairs will look and be different. The LaPorte County fair board has been working closely with the LaPorte Health Department and is in contact with other fair boards, including in Porter and Lake.
The Lake, Porter and LaPorte County fair boards have discussed the possibility of sharing purchased hand-washing stations, since all three fairs are on different dates.
The LaPorte County Fair is scheduled to have its event July 10-17. It will be the county's 175th year celebration.
The Porter County Fair is planned for July 22nd through 31st. And the Lake County Fair is planned for Aug. 6-15.
LaPorte County Fair Board Treasurer Catherine Mrozinski said the fair plan, incorporating COVID-19 safeguards, is still being worked out.
