Gary Mayor Lays Out Updated COVID Restrictions

City of Gary

GARY - Gary Mayor Jerome Prince on Monday laid out new COVID-19 restrictions in his city to help mitigate the spread of the virus.  Last week Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb designated Lake County as a red county, which means the county has to adhere to the highest level of restrictions, and locally mayors and other city leaders are free to implement higher restrictions than set by the state.  After discussing the matter with his administration, Prince announced the rules being imposed on the residents and businesses in the city of Gary.

Everyone must continue to wear face masks when in public. Houses of worship can continue in-person services with up to 50 people at a time, but attendees must wear face coverings and must practice social distancing while inside.

And on social gatherings Prince says, "there must be no social gatherings of more than 25 people at a time in rented facilities or private residences," Prince says.  "If you plan on having a gathering of more than 25 people, you must submit a safety plan to the Gary city Health Department for approval in advance."

Restaurants and retailers must post their capacity numbers at every entrance to their establishments and they must not go beyond 75 percent of that capacity and all workers must wear masks.
