COVID Vaccine Will be Free and Available To Hoosiers at Big Pharmacies

AP News

NORTHWEST INDIANA - Northwest Indiana residents will be able to go to several local pharmacy chains in the Region to get the COVID-19 vaccine for free once it's available to the public.

The "Times" reports several pharmacy chains, many of which are in big-box stores, are set to get allocations of the vaccine once it's approved in the United States.

Jewel-Osco, Walgreens, CVS, Meijer and Walmart are all on the list to get the vaccine. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services selected large pharmacy chains nationwide for its Federal Pharmacy Partnership Strategy to maximize public access to the vaccine at no cost to customers.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is partnering with large stores that account for about 60% of pharmacies in all 50 states. Pharmacies that are not getting a federal allocation can still coordinate to get the vaccine from a local or state health department.

The goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to get the vaccine once it becomes available, and to put a stop to the pandemic that has infected more than 11.1 million Americans and killed more than 246,000 as of Novmeber of 2020.
