EAST CHICAGO - There is a new company coming to East Chicago and with it, the opportunity for about 80 good-paying jobs.

There is a Ribbon-cutting for the new facility of Manhattan Mechanical Services at 11 a.m. Thursday at 3450 Michigan Avenue.  The company is moving from Manhattan, Illinois.

Manhattan Mechanical President Mike Uremovich  says he welcomes the move.

The company is opening a new, 20,000-square-foot facility that will serve as the headquarters.  It will feature a 50-by-200-foot fabrication shop, craft training center, and corporate offices.

Pipefitters, welders and boilermakers are employed at Manhattan Mechanical, which is not affiliated with a union.  The company has an internal training program in which  people enter as apprentices.  Uremovich says it takes about four to five years to get through the program.  The entry level pay is $19 dollars per hour and by the time they become Journeymen, they are making over $100,000 dollar per year.  Manhattan Mechanical Services has been in business for about 10 years.
