HOBART - A Hobart woman and her boyfriend were arrested last week and are charged with abusing and neglecting the woman's grandmother and disabled aunt.
The "Times" reports the woman, 32-year-old Brittany Stewart, has an aunt with cerebral palsy and is nonverbal.
Police first questioned Stewart and 30-year-old Nathan Soria July 19th, after Stewart's 76-year-old grandmother climbed out of a window and told a neighbor "Nathan" was going to kill her, but she escaped.
Police responded to the 1000 block of Third Street, looked through a basement window with a broken screen, and saw garbage all over the floor, furniture, and a woman on a couch without cushions or padding who appeared to be half-laying, half-sitting and unable to move herself. That woman was later identified as Stewart's disabled 51-year-old aunt.
Police also found two children in the house, a four and five-year-old. They were wearing diapers and had very little verbal ability. Child and Family Services took the children.
Stewart and Soria each were charged with four counts of neglect of a dependent. A Lake Criminal Court magistrate entered not guilty pleas on their behalf during separate initial hearings last week.
