Boys and Girls Club Receives Big Donation Involving No Dollars

Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana

SOUTH HAVEN - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana has just received one of it's biggest and most valuable donations it has ever gotten thus-far.

It has been given nearly two acres of land that is adjacent to the South Haven Boys & Girls Club on what is now the north end of the Club’s property.  The donation came from Indiana American Water.  According to a news release from the Boys & Girls Clubs, the lot is valued at more than $130,000.

Shire Kuch, Vice President of Finance for the BGCNWI says the very generous donation will allow the club to grow for its members.

"Before the donation there was very little room for us if we ever wanted to either build a playground or expanding the building," Kuch said.  "Expanding the building was pretty-much off the table since we didn't have enough room and with setbacks and commercial requirements it just really wasn't going to be feasible."

For several years, Indiana American Water had the South Haven water tank on that land.  Kuch says in the middle of 2019, the company had removed that water tower and cleaned up the area.

"You can't even tell that a water tower was ever there," Kuch says. "I was on site there yesterday [Tuesday] and just by walking around you would have no idea that that tower was present."

The two organizations had a great relationship, according to Kuch.  Indiana American Water reached out to the Boys and Girls Club and offered the land.
