CHESTERTON - The National Park Service made the announcement Monday that it's canceling it's Aviation Day program for 2020. In addition, it is canceling all its major events through the fall.
Park Ranger and Public Information Officer Bruce Rowe for Indiana Dunes National Park explains.
"Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the national park has canceled all public programs throughout the summer, these are the traditional ranger-led programs, special events like Aviation Day, we've also canceled our major fall festivals, including Apple Festival at Chelberg Farm and the Outdoor Adventure Festival."
The National Park Service says it canceled Aviation Day due to the difficulty in social distancing. Staff has not made decisions yet about the winter events.
Rowe says park staff are putting together virtual events for the Outdoor Adventure Festival which will allow people to explore the park from the safety of their home. That will be coming out later in the fall.
