Frank Mrvan seems to have captured an upset victory in yesterday’s Democratic primary for Northwest Indiana’s congressional seat. Although there were 14 candidates, Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Junior was considered the front runner having far outraised all other opponents.
Although many absentee ballots still need to be counted, McDermott conceded the race to Mrvan in a phone call. Mrvan is expected to be heavy favorite against the Republican primary winner in the fall to replace retiring Congressman Peter Visclsoky.
