GARY-An Indiana State Trooper clocked someone in a silver Chevrolet going 94 miles per hour on 80/94 Tuesday evening.
Public Information Officer Sergeant Glen Fifield says the man was spotted at around 10:40 in the evening. An officer was able catch up to the vehicle, which was swerving and making unsafe lane movements.
Officers conducted a traffic stop just east of Burr. The driver stopped then fled, prompting a pursuit. The driver eventually crashed into an arrow board and fled on-foot. Officers tried to tase him, but that was ineffective. Officers eventually caught the man and found a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun inside the vehicle.
Officers also found plastic baggies that contained a dark colored rock-like substance. The suspect was identified as 33 year-old Aaron Pointer, from Ford Heights, IL. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and the vehicle he was driving was impounded.
Pointer is charged with dealing in a schedule I Narcotic Drug,
Possession of a Schedule I Narcotic Drug, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Carrying a Handgun without a License, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Reckless Driving.
