Mass School Closings in Northwest Indiana Due to COVID-19

NORTHWEST INDIANA - Schools, government organizations and businesses are all taking precautions and utilizing preemptive measures to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The following closures have been announced. 

 
The Lake County Board of Health and other Lake County school districts, have decided to close all Lake Central Schools for the next 4 weeks beginning on Monday, March 16.
 
School City of Hobart will be closed starting March 16, through April 10.
 
All Porter County Schools will be closed from March 16th though April 10th, that's according to a text message sent to parents from the Duneland School Corporation. 
 
In conjunction with all schools in LaPorte County, MSD of New Durham Township will be closed beginning Monday, March 16, through at least April 13. Spring Break will still take place as scheduled from April 6-10, and administration hopes to return to school on April 14th. 
 
In addition the School City of East Chicago, Porter Township School Corporation, Tri-Creek School Corporation, Duneland School Corporation, Crown Point Community School Corporation and the School City of Hammond are also confirmed to be closing for the next few weeks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 
 
School City of Hammond will be out through April 6.
 
Porter Township School Corporation, Valparaiso Community Schools, Tri-Creek School Corporation, Duneland School Corporation, Hobart schools and Lake Central Community School Corporation are scheduled to return on April 13. 
 
It was not immediately known how long Crown Point Community School Corporation and School City of East Chicago would be closed. 
 
Many schools are also canceling extra-curricular activities and sporting events. 
 
-All LaPorte Catholic Churches’ Religious Education Classes have been canceled from March 14-April 3.

Sharon is also a radio DJ in Chicago, and has been since 2004. In her previous job at Metro Networks/Westwood One, she was heard on am 890 WLS, WGN radio 720 am and am 560 WIND. She has also delivered news and traffic reports on radio stations all over Chicago and the suburbs including 95.9 The River, 98.3 WCCQ and Star 96.7.
