GARY - The Gary Community School Corporation is getting an opportunity to respond the citations brought against it for violation of the city of Gary's unsafe building ordinance.
Michael Gonzalez, Communications Director for the City of Gary says at the beginning of the year Mayor Jerome Prince went to nine different former schools in Gary to inspect them for the city's unsafe building ordinance, which is modeled after state law, Gonzalez says. Inspectors soon discovered the schools were unsafe.
The unsafe buildings law will effect ten schools including Norton, Emerson, Horace Mann, Lew Wallace, Edison, Ernie Pyle, George Carver, Novelle, Spalding and Brunswick.
