Miller Bakery Cafe Closes Amid Cash Flow Issues

Miller Bakery Cafe

GARY - Miller Bakery Cafe in the Miller neighborhood of Gary is now closed.  Its last day was Wednesday, November 6th.

According to an email released from the establishment, the business had been struggling for some time with cash flow and profitability due to multiple factors.  The recent street closures and construction have destroyed business to such an extent that the restaurant is no longer able to pay its bills.

Owner and general manager Jack Strode in a email said quote, "it has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you these past six and a half years.  Thank you from the bottom or our hearts for your support, friendship and patronage.  We are truly sorry that we are unable to continue serving this wonderful community at this time.  Perhaps we will reopen at a future date, but for now, it's time to say so long."

Miller Bakery Cafe was located at 555 South Lake Street in Gary.

Lakeshore Public Radio's Sharon Jackson spoke with Strode about what led up to the closing and his plans for the future.
