PORTAGE - Several road projects are scheduled to come to a close in Portage. Mayor John Cannon says weather permitting, they should be completed by around November 15th.
"We'll have Central Avenue East completely opened," Cannon says. "We'll have Falling Timbers, which has been a long process, that'll be opened by November 1st and ready to go and then Willowcreek Road is just beautiful. Landscape will be going in on it. And we do have a gateway project at Crisman Road and Route 20, which is taking place and it should be done by November 15th."
The city is also preparing for the winter and treating the roads.
"We just got our salt shipment, Cannon says and we're ready to plow snow knock-on-wood we don't get any, but I doubt that's going to happen in Northwest Indiana so."
The city also acquired some new police and emergency equipment, according to Mayor Cannon.
"We were able to secure our six new police cars for this year, that should be showing up at any time, so we're ready to go, Cannon says. We also have a new ambulance coming on board as well, that the fire department will be getting some things moved from the old to the new, technology and such."
Cannon says the acquisitions are expected to happen in the next couple of weeks.
