GARY- A two-vehicle rollover crash on I-80/94 early Thursday morning resulted in a service dog running away.
Indiana State Trooper Glen Fifield, says it happened at around 2:30 a.m. on the eastbound side. A silver 2014 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Brandon Jones of Merrillville and a white 2017 Ford Fiesta, driven by Rodney Jones of Sheboygan, Wisconsin collided on the ramp to Grant St.
The Ford overturned and came to rest in the south ditch. The occupants of the Ford were in possession of a service dog, a small brown and white terrier named "Jack." Jack the dog is trained to assist the hearing impaired. Police believe that following the crash, the dog may have run onto or near Grant Street, as he was not located on the interstate.
The drivers and passengers were transported to Northlake Hospital in Gary for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
