HAMMOND - A Hammond woman is making a name for herself in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math or STEM field and has been named "Up & Coming Woman of the Year in STEM.
The honoree, Michele Murday, Northwest Indiana Branch Manager for EnviroForeniscs, was chosen by the Northwest Indiana Influential Women's Association.
Murday, who moved up through the ranks at EnviroForensics in Hammond, plans to help young women who want to get into STEM fields.
"I would really like to start mentoring maybe a couple of women in the area or even a
group of women that maybe are interested in a career path in STEM just you know to help them maybe get through some of the struggles that they might have along the way or insecurities or just you know questions, because some of my classes, I know I was the only female in an all-male class and sometimes that in itself can be intimidating," Murday says.
Murday first started at EnviroForenics as a field Geologist. About a year and a half into her career she was promoted as a staff Geologist, she was then promoted to project manager. Upon receiving the inaugural STEM award, Murday says has gratitude for Northwest Indiana for being a supportive community.
Here is the interview with Murday in its entirety.
She spoke with Lakeshore Public Radio Show Host Reporter Sharon Jackson about her career and plans to help young women get into STEM fields.
