MICHIGAN CITY - It is a touch job working for the Indiana Department of Correction, but jobs are available.
The Indiana Department of Correction is hiring. Pam James, Public Information Officer for Indiana State Prison says the department is continuously hiring. There is going to be a job fair on Wednesday September 11th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Indiana State Prison, at 1 Park Row in Michigan City.
"We are hiring for correctional officers, we are hiring steam plant managers, maintenance help," James says. "One thing that we ask is that the people come prepared."
James says the IDOC will have job shadows that day. That means prospective employees will be brought among the prison population. In order to be prepared, applicants need to bring the proper documents.
"And that is to bring a driver's license with them, resume, employment history, their diploma," James says. "And it's recommended that if you could apply online to our website prior, it would make it easier."
James says it's not necessary to apply online ahead of time, it's just taking that extra step. The new IDOC website is cell phone friendly, which makes applying online easier. Pay starts at $16.00 dollars an hour for Correctional Officers. The website address is workforindiana.in.gov
