GARY - Now that the Indiana Gaming Commission unanimously voted on Wednesday (8/28) to authorize Spectacle Entertainment to move its casino to land, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says the next steps will get underway to build the upcoming Gary Hard Rock Casino.
"They start building shortly," Freeman-Wilson says. "They'll start doing site work sometime in November, maybe as early as October, but they'll do site work this year and their projected opening date is January 1, 2021."
Freeman-Wilson says the first phase is the building of the casino, the parking deck and the entertainment facility, which will be a 2,000 seat theatre venue.
"I think when the hotel is built it'll be built in phase two and I'm not sure the number of rooms that they plan to have at the hotel." Freeman-Wilson said. "I think at least 150, but it may be more."
The future Gary Hard Rock Casino will be located next to 80/94 at Burr Street.
It's expected to be a $300 million dollar, 225,000-square-foot facility and will employ up to 16-hundred people.
