GARY- An Indiana State Trooper arrested two men after two struggles, a brief chase and a crash. Public Information Officer Trooper Glen Fifield said it happened at about 7 p.m. Sunday (August 25th).
After a trooper observed an initial traffic violation, the officer discovered the owner of the Toyota 4-Runner had an active warrant for Possession of Barbiturates. After two alleged attempts to resist arrest and flee the scene, 37-year-old Christopher Ownby of Lowell was caught. His vehicle had crashed into the Glen Theater on Ridge Road while he attempted to elude the police.
Ownby is facing several charges including Battery on Law Enforcement, Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Leaving the scene of an injury crash and Reckless Driving.
A passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Timothy Choate, from Elkhart, was arrested for active warrants out of Elkhart County for Strangulation/Domestic Battery and Driving While Suspended and a warrant for Conversion from St. Joseph County. He was also transported to the Lake County Jail after treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.
