Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, October 2, 2018

Chicago Crusader

Today:  Dr. Vanessa Allen-McCloud with the Urban League of Northwest Indiana joins us to talk about this Friday's Diversity and Inclusion Symposium, to be held on the Valparaiso University campus.  The theme of this year's event is Courageous Conversation "Creating a Safe Space" and keynote speaker is State Senator Eddie Melton.

Another conversation today from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University is about a young homeless woman dealing with her situation -- and a young child.   Lakeshore Public Media President-CEO James Muhammad brings us up-to-date on the Lakeshore PBS transmitter repairs and some good news -- viewers can watch programs once again, thanks to a low-power transmitter and, very soon, a full-power unit.

And 30 minutes into the program, we introduce you to Gary native and hospitality industry veteran and Missouri State Univ. instructor Jokima Hiller -- who talks about her life, career and experiences.  She's just put out a third book, titled "The Red Book: Notes From A First Year General Manager."  And she's about to receive her PhD.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
