GARY - Leading up to October’s National Bullying Prevention Month, American Licorice Company is partnering with Team U.S.A Track and Field athlete Norris Frederick and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana to spread a message of self-love and inspiration.

They have embarked on the grassroots community effort to address the alarming suicide rates among youth in Indiana.

They are also looking to raise awareness of the life-changing services and programs offered at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana.  Frederick hopes his involvement and the anti-bullying campaign brings about greater acceptance.

"My hope is that people embrace that it's okay to be different, and that you're fine, and that it's fine," Frederick says. "You know embrace what makes you different.  Appreciate the differences in others, is huge.  If we lived in a world where everybody was the same, you know it would be boring and we would fight about something else.  And that we do live in such a diverse world where everybody's different like, embrace it, take it in, learn something."

In the campaign the organizations have the collective goal of making a positive impact in the lives of both the youth living in Northwest Indiana and beyond.

Kristi Shafer, vice president of marketing at American Licorice Company, says the message they want to get-across to kids is to embrace what makes you unique and appreciate the differences in others.
