Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, July 24, 2018

Youtube/Indiana Public Media

Today:    Valparaiso attorney Jim Harper is running on the Democratic Party ticket for Indiana Secretary of State.  He is making a multi-day-long media tour around the Hoosier State these days, and he talked with us while on the road about his concerns about the need for a general election that is free from outside interference, and other planks of his campaign.

We also bring you this week's conversation from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  The Welcome Project collects first-person stories and pairs these with intentional conversation to help forge stronger ties within and across our communities. This conversation is about a resident's victory over homelessness and despair.

Indiana University Northwest Dean Mark Hoyert and Professor Kristen Huysken talk about this year's "Summer Bridge" program for incoming freshman, which begins on August 13th and ends August 17th on the Gary campus.  There is still room for enrollees in this activity-based approach to preparing for the first year at IUN, and that includes transfer students as well as new high school graduates.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
