More Indiana Counties Eligible for Disaster Assistance

http://afterwildfirenm.org

NORTHWEST INDIANA - Thirteen more Indiana counties are eligible for disaster assistance caused by the flooding that occurred between February 14th and March 4th of this year (2018).  Federal Emergency Management Agency spokesperson William Lindsey says FEMA has been in the area since that time.

"That's considered the critical incident period," Lindsey says. "So if anyone has sustained any damages or losses during that time we want them to register with FEMA as soon as possible.  Now we have added an additional 13 counties because we are taking advisements and doing all types of disaster assessments with our local and county stakeholders as in emergency managers."

Lindsey says the fastest way to register with FEMA is online at www.disasterassistance.gov At the site there is also information on mitigation and on FEMA programs.  Applicants can also call FEMA's Helpline at 1 800 621-3362.

"The other thing that we do is that we have our, the vaster survival assistance personal and they go door to door making sure that anyone in the effected area is contacted and know what their recovery resources are and what's available," Lindsey says.

The effected property must be the homeowners' or renters' primary residence.  The additional eligible Northwest Indiana counties include Jasper, LaPorte, Pulaski and Starke.
Business owners in these counties may also apply for assistance. The deadline to apply is Thursday, July 5th.
