Regionally Speaking, Monday, May 7, 2018

Today:   Ahead of Tuesday's primary election -- and Lakeshore Public Radio's Election Night coverage, beginning at 6PM -- we offer a look from Indiana Public Broadcasting's Barbara Brosher about the importance of young voters, if they come out to the polls. Barbara says many young voters don't participate in the primary election process.

We talked with Steve Beekman, the executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, in his new headquarters in Merrillville about the new facility and the programs he wants to see to take advantage of the additional space -- and to fight food insecurity in Northwest Indiana.  The Food Bank's moving from Gary to 6490 Broadway in Merrillville.  Beekman says they have already received more than $2.5 million in financial commitments toward the $4 million goal.

Northwest Indiana Symphony musical director and conductor Kirk Muspratt joins us to talk about the next series of concerts that focus on show tunes from Broadway.  And we revisit our conversation with Laura Kovach about the School City of Hobart's "Building Brickies" rapidly-growing early learning program.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
