NORTHWEST INDIANA- Average retail gasoline prices in Northwest Indiana have risen almost 4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.57 per gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 314 gas outlets in Northwest Indiana. This compares with the national average that has increased just under five cents per gallon in the last week to $2.60 per gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy said Monday that Northwest Indiana residents who are filling up their tank to make sure they shop around.
"I would absolutely shop around. This time of the year is certainly when you see a lot of volatility at the pump, so don't forget that if you need to fill your tank, always check the prices near you," DeHaan says. "Just today (Monday) looking at Northwest Indiana, there is a sizeable gap between the cheapest stations, there's one in Merrillville at $2.41 and the higher priced stations at $2.79. That's a potential big amount of savings, if you're filling your tank."
Gas prices in Northwest Indiana this time last year were just over 33 cents per gallon lower. The price is also 12 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.
According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on March 26th in Northwest Indiana have ranged widely over the last five years, from a low of $1.89 per gallon in 2016 to $3.77 per gallon in 2013.
