Regionally Speaking, Wednesday, March 21, 2018

WMUB Public Media

Today:   we continue our conversation on the proposed solid waste materials recovery facility in Gary with "the other side" of the issue.  Sam Henderson, an attorney for the Hoosier Environmental Council, is in the studio to talk about the concerns that the HEC and local citizens, businesses and educational organizations like the Steel City Academy about Maya Energy LLC's proposal.

They raise environmental and other questions, in documents sent as public comment to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. IDEM is reviewing the material before making a decision on an application for a solid waste facility permit.

Carl Lisek of South Shore Clean Cities has another edition of "Green Fleet Radio" and this week, his guest Terry Butler, who is transportation director for the School City of Hammond.

Side Effects Public Media's Jake Harper reports on how incomplete the Indiana data on drug overdose deaths that is reported every year to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can really be.

And we bring you the conversation that Lakeshore Public Radio's Tom Maloney had with Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.  She is the only Hoosier city mayor to join Governor Eric Holcomb's delegation on next week's trade mission to Canada.  The mayor also talks about economic development efforts following the city's bid to attract Amazon HQ2.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
