She explains the categories for this year's awards -- how applicants can put in nominations for them -- and how the awards fit in with the Urban League's goals of promoting, encouraging and enhancing services for all minority groups in northwest Indiana. The deadline for applications for this year's awards is February 16th.

Later in the program, we revisit Indiana Public Broadcasting reporter Annie Ropeik's report at how the city of East Chicago plans to revitalize public housing areas lost to the city's lead contamination problems. The project is called "Moving Forward" and the goal is to have new housing available by 2020.
