NORTHWEST INDIANA - Congressman Pete Visclosky, who represents the first district congressional district in Indiana is running for an 18th term.
"I'm running again to continue some transformational programs in Northwest Indiana" Visclosky says.
He says that he is also running again to continue to fight on behalf of the local steel industry. Visclosky says his public service outlook is that congress should ensure that everyone has an opportunity to earn a good paying job. He says in Northwest Indiana the foundation of that is a domestic steel industry. Visclosky serves as the vice chair of the steel caucus.
"But over and above that, I think people understand in Northwest Indiana steel is not a jobs growth industry and that we do need to transform our economy," Visclosky says.
The congressman says Northwest Indiana's economy needs to be transformed and one
principal approach is to re-capitalize the existing South Shore Line with the double tracking project and to extend the West Lake Line service from Hammond to Dyer.
