Lt. Governor Crouch: Workforce Training a Focus of Upcoming Session

in.gov

MERRILLVILLE - Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch was in the Region Thursday talking to community members about the departments she oversees, infrastructure improvements and the main priorities of the upcoming 2018 Indiana legislative session.

"Workforce training, one of our pillars and one that's taken kind of a front seat in this particular upcoming session is preparing and training a 21st century workforce, so that they are prepared for the jobs, the high paying jobs that require the skills that we have today.  And so the governor has proposed and is creating a cabinet-level position to coordinate those efforts and to put more emphasis on workforce training."

Crouch says the governor is proposing to invert the current workforce training model.  Instead of directives coming from the state, from the top down, she says Governor Holcomb's administration now wants every Region to determine what kind of training is necessary and what is needed to meet the needs of its own employers in their areas and to employ their own local people.
