Lake Area United Way

Today:  Lake Area United Way honors its volunteers and community-based employees for their efforts this year with the second annual STAR Awards celebration to be held in Munster on December 5th.  We learn more about the awards from Lisa Daugherty, President and CEO of the Lake Area United Way, as well as find out more about the new role that the organization plays in Lake County.

Sandy Alvarez of the Center of Workforce Innovations and Kevin Comerford with the Construction Advancement Foundation talk about Tuesday's inaugural Northwest Indiana Construction and Skilled Trades Day, to be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point.  It's an opportunity for young people and (later in the day) the public to learn more about trades training and apprenticeship programs.

We revisit our conversation with Bruce Lindner of Porter County Aging and Community Service Inc. about the 2018 Medicare enrollment counseling services, ahead of the December 7th deadline for open enrollment.  And Purdue University economist and public policy analyst Larry DeBoer talks about how both Hobart and Hammond "bucked the trend" by winning voter support for each city's community public school referenda campaigns.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
