Gas Prices in Northwest Indiana Fallen Just Over 2 Cents

GasBuddy.com

NORTHWEST INDIANA - Average retail gasoline prices in Northwest Indiana have fallen just over 2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.61/g Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 314 gas outlets in Northwest Indiana. This compares with the national average that has fallen almost three cents per gallon in the last week to $2.54/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick DeHaan says a wide range of prices can be found in the Region.

"Gas prices have started to decline, average prices in Gary, in Northwest Indiana a week ago about $2.64. We're down to about $2.61," DeHaan says. "But you can certainly find it well under that.  In fact gas stations on the cheap side about .13 cents per gallon cheaper in Merrillville.  The Family Express there is $2.47.  We're seeing a $2.47 in Crown Point as well."

DeHaan says one lesson here is shop around.

"There's a wide variety of pricing. Talk about on the opposite side of that, stations in Portage as high as $2.79."

Including the change in gas prices in Northwest Indiana during the past week, prices Sunday  were almost 65 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 13 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 9 cents per gallon during the last month and stands just over 40 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

According to GasBuddy historical data, gasoline prices on November 20 in Northwest Indiana have ranged widely over the last five years:
$1.96/g in 2016, $1.89/g in 2015, $2.85/g in 2014, $3.15/g in 2013 and $3.41/g in 2012.
