Gary Resident Featured on Jumbotron in Times Square Through Cancer Campaign

billyfoster.com

GARY - A Gary resident was featured on a Jumbotron in Times Square throughout the month of October as part of his participation in the "This is Living with Cancer" campaign, sponsored by Pfizer.  It's a national campaign that tells the story of real people who are living with cancer and provides LivingWith, a free app for people with cancer and their caregivers.

The app is designed to help patients and caregivers manage life with cancer and organize important pieces of information in one place.

Billy Foster says he was among many who were looked at to participate in the program.

"The way that I was found is that they interviewed over one hundred people I'm told," Foster says.  "But I was recommended by someone I know at the kidney cancer association."

Foster has kidney Cancer.

"I have Renal Cell Carcinoma metastasized to my lungs and liver and originally in my brain, but we were able to laser that away, Foster says. "I still have the other though."

Foster says the campaign features the stories of people with a cancer diagnosis.  The stories send the message that a person can "live" with cancer and do pretty well.  Foster says he has been living well with Cancer.  He originally had his kidney removed in 1996 because it had a cancerous tumor.  He was fine until 2007 when he learned he had Renal Cell Carcinoma metastases on his lungs, liver and brain.  Foster was able to get into a clinical trial that he says kept everything stable until 2013 and now he is on medication.
