We talk with Scott Houldieson and Barry Halgrimson with PDA-Calumet, a local branch of Progressive Democrats of America, about the organization and about the rally on Saturday, November 18th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Indianapolis Blvd. and Cabella Drive in Hammond.
Purdue University Northwest associate professor Bonnie Colon joins us to talk about Tuesday evening's workshop for public school principals and counselors on the Hammond campus. It is the first workshop supported by a $25,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment's Comprehensive Counseling Initiative.
Both the School City of Hammond and the School City of Hobart successfully launched campaigns to ask voters in their communities to support tax increases for future operational expenses and capital improvement programs. We asked Purdue University economist Larry DeBoer -- who studies local and state goverment policy issues like taxation and property tax assessment -- to talk about how Hammond and Hobart "bucked the trend" by being first-time referenda campaigns so successful in their initial effort. He also talks about how the school districts carefully explained why they needed the additional funding.
