And School City of Hammond Superintendent Walter Watkins, Executive Director of Business Services Alesia Pritchett and Executive Director of Buildings and Grounds James Burggraff will talk about the two referenda questions before Hammond voters on November 7th. They'll explain the concerns and issues behind both questions on the special election ballot.
The Hammond school district is asking for a tax increase to cover future operational expenses and if school officials can issue bonds or enter into a lease for construction of a new high school and make other improvements to existing buildings. The average Hammond homeowner would pay $10.47 a month in additional property taxes for both referenda. The issues were explained to residents at four separate public meetings in September.
