Regionally Speaking, Tuesday, October 31, 2017

IU Northwest

Today:  We find out about the latest Northwest Indiana Coincident Economic Index from Indiana University Northwest economist Micah Pollak, and learn that the Region's economy is steadily improving. Pollak and his colleague Bala Arshanapalli sift through the data on several key areas of the  economy in Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper Counties to create the Index report.  He presented the latest information at a recent Chancellor's Commission for Community Engagement meeting.

We have another in the series of first-person stories from the Welcome Project at Valparaiso University.  And School City of Hobart Superintendent Peggy Buffington joins us to talk about the school district's referenda questions before residents at the November 7th special election.  The campaign seeking support is called "Vision 2020 for the Brickies: A Capital Improvement for SCOH."  It calls for no increase in tax bills for Hobart residents.  Early voting is currently underway ahead of the special election at selected locations in Hobart.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
