Regionally Speaking, Monday, October 30, 2017

University of Chicago/Delta Institute

Today:  we revisit our conversations with Peter Berg of Great Lakes ADA Center and Valparaiso University School of Law professor Rebecca Huss, on the difference between "service animal" and "comfort animal," as brought about by a recent incident involving the owner of an animal and employees at a northwest Indiana business.

We also talk with Eve Pytel of Chicago-based Delta Institute, the manager of "Steel City Salvage," the Gary program that trains contractors to deconstruct usable materials from abandoned buildings and re-purposes them for future use in other structures.  "Steel City Salvage" is offering the public a chance to see these items at what's being called a "Pop Up Shop," this coming Saturday.  "Delta Institute received the 2016 Gary Cities Challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

And we bring back our recent conversation about "ArtHouse: A Social Kitchen," the first Gary Cities Challenge grant winner from the Knight Foundation.

Chris Nolte produces and hosts “Regionally Speaking” aired weekdays from noon to 1:00 p.m. He's also the temporary local "Morning Edition" host.
