Lakeshore Public Radio's Sharon Jackson also joins us.
The recent stories that Carole worked on mainly involve the Gary Community Schools, from how fines assessed by environmental agencies against Indiana companies are helping cover some maintenance issues in the GCSC to how the Internal Revenue Service is making it difficult for the school district to sell off some of its vacant buildings. Carrie covered the latest on the upcoming school referenda votes in Hobart and Hammond, an out-of-the-ordinary Boy Scout cleanup project in Hammond and the appearance of a comfort dog in the Lake County Government Center.
Jon Gard's big story this week is about a comprehensive study being conducted in LaPorte County to assess the serious nature of the heroin and opioid addiction crisis. That study could be completed next spring. And Sharon's conversation with interim Merrillville school superintendent Michael Berta is in the program this week.
